Senior Resource
Directory

Finding the right help can be the hardest part of planning for the years ahead. This directory gathers trusted local and national resources for senior veterans, surviving spouses, and the families who support them in the Portland metro and Clark County. Bookmark it, share it with family, and call me anytime you're not sure where to start.

Where to Start

1

Call Your Local Aging Office First

In Oregon, the Aging and Disability Resource Connection connects you to your county's aging services. In Clark County, start with the Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington. Both offer free help understanding your options.

Veteran tip: Ask specifically about programs for veterans. County aging offices often work closely with county Veteran Service Officers.
2

Enroll in VA Health Care

VA health care opens the door to many services, from home based care to caregiver support. Even if you have other insurance, enrolling can expand your options.

Veteran tip: The Portland VA Health Care System serves veterans on both sides of the river, with clinics across the metro.
3

Work With a Veteran Service Officer

County Veteran Service Officers help veterans and families apply for VA benefits at no cost, including disability compensation, pension, and Aid and Attendance.

Veteran tip: My Veteran Community Resource Guide lists the county veteran service office and nearest VA clinic for 20 local cities and counties.
4

Use 211 for Everything Else

If you don't know where to turn, dial 211. Trained specialists can connect you with local resources for food, housing, transportation, utilities, and more.

Veteran tip: Keep this page bookmarked and share it with family members who help with care. It's easier when everyone knows where to look.
